CaCO3 Biotech
Marianne Chouinard | MRC Côte-de-Gaspé
CaCO3 Biotech is an innovative Gaspesian marine biotechnology company. Its mission is to recycle marine by-products, particularly shellfish. The principles of circular economy and sustainable development are at the heart of the company’s actions.
For the past two years, the company has been carrying out research and development to extract nacre from shellfish used in the food industry, and to recycle it. The company is currently preparing to market its first eco-designed Quebec gem for the jewelry industry. It will then pursue the development of a mother-of-pearl powder for the cosmetics market, scheduled for commercialization in 2025.
Within the next 3 years, the company hopes to have positioned itself as a pioneer in the reclamation of marine by-products, and to be recognized as one of the most innovative in Eastern Canada, thanks to its innovative and original solutions.
AMCGÎM’s financing enabled Marianne to start the pre-commercialization phase of her products, and to meet the prerequisites for their sale (prototyping, characterization, production, branding, marketing).
“Accès Microcrédit Gaspésie-Îles-de-la-Madeleine was for me the entry point for a first loan and the concrete launch of my project. I felt that the time had come for me to move up a gear and inject more substantial funds into the project. Thanks to them, this step went quickly and efficiently! I felt supported and was able to embark on the next stages of development with confidence! The team is very friendly and a pleasure to work with!”
