What is Microcredit?

At the beginning, microcredit originated in Bangladesh in the 1970s. In Quebec, microcredit was introduced in the 1990s. This business financing practice aims to give access to credit and local support to excluded populations, on the fringe of conventional business financing networks. The main objective is to allow these people to start their own business and to generate income and employment in the region.

Community credit: a global approach

The Quebec “style” of community credit is characterized by a global approach that aims to meet both the economic and social needs of individuals. Firstly, the support of Accès Microcrédit Gaspésie-Îles-de-la-Madeleine is mainly solicited to support the launch of businesses. But it is also available for the expansion or consolidation of your business projects. In all cases, the financial support offered is flexible and adapted to the realities of our entrepreneurs.

A singular practice that stands out

Accès Microcrédit Gaspésie-Îles-de-la-Madeleine is a non-profit organization member of the MicroEntreprendre network that contributes to the economic development of Gaspésie and the Îles-de-la-Madeleine. The organization supports anyone with a viable business project.

What about AMCGÎM’s offer that sets it apart:

No sector is excluded.

However, the business project must be financially viable. In addition, the potential market must not be saturated or in the process of being saturated.

The small loan strategy.

Indeed, even a $1000 loan can make a difference in a business project and help it see the light of day.

Investment committees, sharing experiences

Since the promoter is at the heart of our support, when applying for a loan, the promoter will present their project to an investment committee made up of entrepreneurs from their MRC. It is an approach that emphasizes local autonomy (by MRC).
